Your Excellency Mr. Deputy Minister Wang Chao,
Dear colleagues, friends,
Ladies and gentlemen!
Our young country – Ukraine - has just celebrated its 23rd anniversary. Within 23 years Ukrainians have been building their eternal dream – to have its own independent and sovereign state.
An appeal for this was made ever since the ancient times, since the days of the powerful Kyiv Rus.
Over the centuries glorious sons and daughters of Ukraine, the Cossacks and the national rebels fought for freedom of their land.
At the times of Bohdan Khmelnytsky and Ivan Mazepa foundations of the independent statehood were laid. And although these foundations had later been insidiously destroyed by Russian tsarism, the Ukrainian people didn’t loose the spirit of freedom, courage and dignity.
This spirit was personified in our great poet Taras Shevchenko, the 200th anniversary of whom we celebrated last spring. His works became a catalyst for wider dissemination among Ukrainians the sense of national identity, generated a wave of creative and victorious inspiration, and strengthened the will to win.
At the beginning of the 20th century this Ukrainian spirit led to creation of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, which not existed for long, though became a bright star on the way towards independence.
Neither dark age of Stalinism, nor Great Famine and repressions, nor horrible wars that twice swept through the territory of our country could not break the backbone of Ukrainian identity, did not destroy our dream of creating our own unique chain in the universal mechanism of the human civilization genesis.
Right now the whole nation celebrates 23 years since the date of fulfilment of this dream hard, with pain, with a heavy burden in the heart and weapons in hands.
Again as before, cunning, strong and ruthless enemy encroached on our freedom, on sovereign territory of Ukraine, on lives and liberty of our citizens.
However, we have met this ordeal with dignity. The reaction of our people to cynical invasion in our land was unexpected even for the aggressor – by unity, full support of President’s and Government’s strategies, by large-scale voluntary mobilization.
At present the Ukrainian nation is experiencing a powerful new wave of shaping-up of self-consciousness. Throughout the country the citizens stand under the state banners, consciously and sincerely singing words of the national anthem, demonstrating toughness, dedication and stunning heroism on the battlefield. Everyone understands that this time it is impossible to stay apart, and the fate of the entire state is linked to the fate of every Ukrainian citizen.
And when we are united we are the force that cannot be knocked down!
It is especially touching to feel that we are not alone. We can feel the whole progressive mankind, the whole world standing next to us. The world, which during the last century went through two world wars and dozens of local conflicts and which now is well aware of the possible prospects of aggressive attacks by "demoniac warlords".
Nobody remains indifferent to the events in Ukraine. Neither the USA, nor the UK, nor the other European states and the rest of the world. This is clearly proved by support that came from your, dear friends, countries within the United Nations and other international organizations.
We are sincerely grateful for such a principled stance and solidarity with Ukraine.
We are sure that China stays with us. The country, whose people suffered a terrible occupation, humiliation, devastation and carnage. People knowing the price of terrorism and extremism, being aware of what annexation of sovereign territories and separatism are. Country which knows that truth is one for all. And the truth is that justice and honour will ever prevail over blasphemy and crime!
I believe that whatever ordeals are approaching our friends will stay together with us in confronting the hypocritical aggressor. They will support us not only politically, but also economically, particularly by efforts in searching and implementing new streams of cooperation.
It is especially on the agenda right now when Ukraine is on its way back towards its European family.
And integration of our country into European structures not only perfectly fits into our bilateral relations, but also creates additional opportunities for our partners, in particular, for those from China.
We believe the establishment of Ukraine-China strategic partnership to be one of the most significant achievements of our foreign policy. The Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation between Ukraine and the People’s Republic of China will come into force in the near future.
One more piece of good news: an official opening ceremony of Business, Scientific, Technical and Information Center, named “Ukrainian house” took place in Beijing.
I know that the whole Chinese nation treats Ukraine with great sympathy. And I am convinced that over time our culture, traditions, literature, music and arts will become more and more popular among the citizens of China. And, of course, the Ukrainian language, judging by the great attention all of you, dear friends, pay to my speech.
Long live the unbreakable friendship between Ukrainian and Chinese people!
Long live the sovereign, independent and united Ukraine!
Long live Ukraine!
