On 21 July 2015, the meeting between Ambassador of Ukraine to the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Oleg Dyomin, and the Special Representative on the UN Security Council reform of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, former Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine, Mr. Gao Yushen, took place.
In the course of the meeting, the interlocutors have expressed their mutual satisfaction in connection with results of Ambassador Gao Yushen’s visit to Ukraine last June and outcomes of his talks with the leadership of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. During the talks, Ambassadors of Ukraine and China have noted a lot of common grounds in the approaches of two countries towards the reform of the UN Security Council and the UN role in modern international relations.
The Ukrainian and Chinese high-ranking diplomats have recognized the importance to continue the exchange of views in this regard between the two countries` Foreign Offices, as well as the need to maintain the existing tradition of cooperation and mutual support of two countries in the UN system bodies.
At the meeting, the Ambassador of Ukraine handed over to his counterpart the copy of the recent letter from Mr. Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine, addressed to the UN Secretary-General, as well as to the outgoing and incoming Presidents of the UN General Assembly, on the occasion of the 70-th anniversary of signing the UN Charter, which contains, inter alia, Ukraine’s vision of the issues discussed with the Chinese Side.
