Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine in China Oleg Dyomin on February 2, 2016 took part in the meeting dedicated to the arrival of pilot train to the final destination via the new Silk Road, which was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

The train consisting of 10 wagons and 20 forty-foot containers was sent on January 15 from Illichivsk and arrived to the final station Dostyk on the border between Kazakhstan and China on January 31, 2016. The route was via Black Sea and the main stations: the port of Batumi, Alyat, Aktau Port, Beineu, Zhezkazgan, Balkhash-1.

This route is an alternative way to deliver cargo from the West to the East, bypassing the territory of Russia through Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan to China.

The main issues on the agenda of the meeting were the analysis of "bottlenecks" along the route of the train and their possible removal in the future. Acting Chairman of the Board of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia Alexander Zavgorodniy informed that work on the container train throughout the route will be finished at the end of February. A meeting, during which the final agreement will be signed between the project participants from all countries, will be held in Astana. This will finally allow to coordinate the work of all participants and to avoid downtime during delivery. Particularly, the route via territory of Kazakhstan - the longest section that amounts more than 3,000 kilometers - can be just 3 days.

Ambassador of Ukraine Oleg Dyomin in China stressed the great interest in the new route of freight delivery to China. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman welcomed expanding the possibilities of freight deliver from China to Ukraine and the European Union. Oleg Dyomin emphasized that according to Ukrainian businessmen, due to functioning of the new route will not only accelerate the delivery of Ukrainian products, but also expand their range. Head of the Embassy of Ukraine expressed his hope for the fastest completion of negotiations in Beijing on the implementation of the project.

Summarizing the meeting, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk congratulated the Ministry of Infrastructure and Ukrzaliznytsia with the successful completion of the first test route and set a target to work to reduce the route duration and fare. The Prime Minister stressed the need to create conditions of transportation by this route to become a commonplace thing for businesses.
