On August 3, 2012 the delegation of Ukrainian children affected by the Chernobyl disaster was officially welcomed in the building of the Great People’s Hall on the occasion of its visit to China for recreation and leisure. The visit takes place in the context of implementation of the agreements between the two Heads of States reached during the state visit of President Hu Jintao to Ukraine in June 2011.
During the meeting of the Ambassador of Ukraine to China Mr. Yurii Kostenko with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Member of the State Council of China Mrs. Liu Yandong Ukrainian side expressed deep and sincere gratitude for such a significant contribution to the elimination of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, highly assessed the friendly step of Chinese leadership to organize such a large-scale humanitarian project. Ambassador of Ukraine expressed confidence that the implementation of this project will successfully promote cultural and humanitarian component of bilateral relations.
Mrs. Liu Yandong stressed large attention that Chinese side pays to the development of youth exchanges, noted a significant intensification of Ukrainian-Chinese relations in this area. She said that it will contribute furtherto thestrengthening of friendship and understanding between peoples and the maintenance of world peace and human progress, that will create an important platform of communication and learning of each other.
The parties agreed that such projects create a solid background of Ukrainian-Chinese strategic partnership relations for a long term period.
According to the program Ukrainian delegation will visit two cities - Beijing and Qingdao, will have tours to historical and memorable places, learn traditions, customs and culture of China.
Along with Chinese children Ukrainian youth delegation will participate in various children's activities.
The delegation consists of 200 children from Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Rivne, Khmelnytsky, Cherkasy, Chernihiv oblasts andthecity of Kyiv.
