October 25, 2018 in Qingdao (Shandong Province), the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the China Association for International Scientific and Technical Cooperation with the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in China held a Joint conference “The prospect of Sino-Ukraine scientific cooperation in the framework of “The Belt and Road Initiative”.
The Ukrainian delegation included representatives of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine headed by Vice-President academician Anatoly Zagorodny and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine as well as number of institutes particularly the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute, Institute of Technical Thermal Physics, Institute of Problems of Materials Science, Institute of Chemistry of High-Molecular Compounds, Physical-Technological Institute of Metals and Alloys and leading Ukrainian universities, including NTUU "I.Sikorsky Kiev Polytechnic University", NTU "Kharkov Polytechnic Institute ”, National Aerospace University “KhAI”, Kharkov National University of Radioelectronics.
From the Chinese side, the event was attended by the leadership of the People’s Government of Qingdao, the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, scientific and educational centers, as well as representatives of more than 40 Chinese companies which are interested to cooperate with Ukraine in the sphere of innovation.
During the visit, the Ukrainian delegation headed by the Ambassador of Ukraine to China Oleg Dyomin held a meeting with Vice Mayor of Qingdao Zhang Depin. On the meeting the parties expressed mutual interest in the further development of relations in the economic, scientific, technical and cultural fields as well as a interregional cooperation.
Ambassador of Ukraine Oleg Dyomin noted that Ukraine is ready to develop scientific and technical cooperation with China on the principles of transparent and mutually beneficial partnership.
One of the prospective ways of such cooperation is the establishing of joint research and production centers on the territory of Ukraine and China which would create modern technologies by Chinese funding.
Chinese scientists were warned about the negative consequences of contacts with institutions on the temporarily occupied territories of the Crimea and Donbass, in particular, it was noted that such contacts would be regarded by Ukraine as cooperation with the occupation authorities that violate Ukrainian laws.
During the conference the specialists of the two countries made presentations of perspective projects, reached agreements on joint researches and concluded a number of agreements on cooperation.
