On the 26th of June annually Ukraine celebrates the Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag – a national flag of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people of the Crimean Peninsula. To demonstrate the unity of the Ukrainians and the Crimean Tatars, the Embassy of Ukraine in China placed a national flag of Ukraine and the Crimean Tatar Flag in front of its premises.
The Crimean Tatar flag represents a canvas of blue color with a symbol – a golden tamga. Blue color is the traditional color of the Turkic peoples - it was also used on the flag of the Crimean Khanate. The coat of arms depicted on the flag is the generic sign of the Girays, the ruling dynasty of the Crimean Khanate.
Nowadays, the Crimean Tatar flag is also a symbol of resistance against the occupying Russian authorities on the annexed Crimean peninsula.
The celebration is held under the slogan "Two flags - one country".
