Opening remarks were delivered by Kyrylo Chuyko, First Secretary for Culture and Public Diplomacy of the Embassy of Ukraine in China, and Marti Mätas, Deputy Ambassador of the Embassy of Estonia. Both speakers highlighted the background and humanitarian message of the film, emphasizing the vital role of art as a source of faith, strength, and hope in times of turmoil.
Based on the true story of Ukrainian artist Anatolii, the film portrays his journey from civic activist to monk and artist. His life stands as a testament to spiritual resilience, humanism, and the power of faith that overcomes the darkness of war. The film’s subtle storytelling and sincere emotions deeply moved the audience.
Following the screening, a live online Q&A session was held with the film’s director Denys Strashnyi and protagonist Anatolii, who shared their creative experience and answered numerous audience questions. The attendees expressed their gratitude with long applause and heartfelt appreciation. Special thanks extended to the DOCU CLUB network for its support and assistance in organising the screening.
The event concluded in an uplifting and friendly atmosphere. Sadly, shortly after the film’s premiere in 2021, Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Today, the film’s message of peace, justice, and humanity resonates even more profoundly amid the ongoing war.
