Operation summary of the situation around Crimea (18 March 2014)

Russia continues to build up its military presence, including in the waters of Black sea and Sea of Azov, actively moves military troops in depth of the Crimean peninsula as well as continues to violate Ukrainian airspace and imposes psychological pressure on Ukrainian militaries, the State Border Service personnel and their families.

Soldiers of the Border Service of the Russian Federal Security Service continue the fortification activities on the Russian-Ukrainian border near Kharkiv, Donetsk, Sumy and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.

Russian militaries accomplished rotation of some units on the block-posts in the regions of Chongar and Perekops isthmus.

Russian troops continue activities aimed at taking control over main roads in the northern part of the peninsula.

There is a significant number of Russian military ships in the waters of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov: in the Black Sea – 31, in Kerch strait – 5, in AzovSea – 2.

The number of Russian militaries is increasing, the corresponding groups, which include rocket artillery units ("Grad", "Hurricane") and anti-aircraft missiles "S-300", are being established.

The operational and combat training of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on the border regions of Ukraine continues.

The Russian military units in Crimea have been embattled.
