On May 9, 2011 in the city of Zhangjiakou (Hebei Province) on the occasion of 66th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the World War Two was held a wreath laying ceremony to the Memorial to the Soviet and Mongolian soldiers who died during the liberation of China in 1945. The representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in China, the People's Government of Zhangjiakou and city leadership took part in the event.
The participants in the ceremony honored 54 officers and soldiers of the Soviet army, many of them Ukrainians.
Addressing the audience, Ambassador of Ukraine in China Yurii Kostenko expressed appreciation to the leadership and people of the city for preserving the memory of our compatriots who fought here side by side with Chinese and Mongolian soldiers against Japanese invaders.
Vice-mayor of Zhangjiakou Tang Weibin, Deputy Secretary of the Zhangjiakou Party Committee Zhang Zhixue and Deputy Magistrate of the People’s Government of Zhangbei County, Hebei Province, Zhang Fengxiang in their speeches stressed that Chinese people gratefully to remember the fallen in the battles and continue to take care of the Memorial regarding it as personification of friendship between China and Ukraine.
