The grand opening ceremony of the Day of Ukraine was held in China University of Politics and Law on March 28, 2011.
The University teachers and students, representatives of local art community and media were present at the opening event.
Addressing the audience the Ambassador of Ukraine to China H.E.Mr. Yurii Kostenko outlined the target of the event and its role in promotion of bilateral relations and stressed the importance of multiple approaches to its organization including presentation of artistic and decorative art pieces, literary achievements and image information on Ukrainian topics.
In his speech the rector of the University Huang Jun addressed the meeting pointing out the necessity of active acquaintance of Ukrainian achievements in different areas of Ukrainian culture and art by professors and students of the University as well as reinforcement of traditions of Chinese-Ukrainian friendship by arranging concrete cultural actions.
Participants warmly appreciated the speech of the famous Ukrainian poetess Liudmyla Skyrda who shared her own vision of China and Chinese people through her poetry and spoke about her creative plans including the completion of her new book of poetry translated into Chinese. In the atmosphere of high poetic aspiration representative of students recited some verses and maintain an interactive dialogue with her.
In the framework of the Day of Ukraine the exhibition of facsimile copies of etchings by Taras Shevchenko, items of the Ukrainian traditional handicrafts, books on literature and encyclopedia editions were displayed. Some of the books were donated to the University library.
The event was dedicated to the 20-th anniversary of the independence of Ukraine.
