On April 14, 2010 the Ambassador of Ukraine to the People’s Republic of China Yurii Kostenko held a meeting with Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, the Head of the «China-Ukraine» Friendship Group of the Chinese Parliament Li Zhaoxing.
During the conversation the current state and the future prospects of development of the Ukrainian-Chinese relations in the political sphere, the concrete steps to intensify the bilateral cooperation at the parliamentary level were discussed.
The participants of the meeting highly appreciated the results of talks between the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and the President of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao, which took place on April 12, 2010 in Washington, DC, during the Nuclear Security Summit, and expressed confidence that the agreements reached by the Heads of the two States will promote further intensification of the Ukrainian-Chinese relations.
Li Zhaoxing stressed, that the highest state leadership of China attaches great importance to the development of mutually beneficial relations with Ukraine, to the effective realization of the existing potential of cooperation in the spheres of common interest.
The Ambassador of Ukraine stressed the importance of intensification of the political dialogue between Ukraine and China at the highest level. In this regard the participants of the meeting discussed the issue of organization during 2010 of mutual visits at the highest and high level. They also exchanged views on the ways to intensify the contacts between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the National People’s Congress of China, particularly between the Foreign Affairs Committees and the groups of parliamentary exchanges.
