National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (NAFAA) is the only multi-profile Academy of Art education in Ukraine, which prepares creative staff in the field of painting, sculpture, graphics, design, architecture, restoration of works of art, art history and the like.
NAFAA is the successor of the Ukrainian Academy of Art, created on December 18, 1917 on the initiative of outstanding figures of culture, science and art —academician M. Grushevsky, artists and teachers V. Krichevsky, F. Krichevsky, M. Boychuk, A. Murashko, G. Narbut, M. Burachek, A. Manevich, I.Vron, etc.
NAFAA trains bachelors, masters and doctors of philosophy/art history at the departments of painting and composition, sculpture, graphic arts, architecture, theory and history of arts, restoration of works of art, design, scenography and screen arts, as well as general academic departments of drawing, social and humanitarian disciplines, etc.
The total number of students is more than 1000. More than 160 teachers work at 14 departments. Among them: 21 – academicians and corresponding members of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Academy of Architecture. 11 winners of the National Prize of Ukraine, Taras Shevchenko and the State prize of Ukraine in the field of architecture, 39 doctors and professors, 71 – candidates of sciences and associate professors, 63 teachers were awarded high honorary titles, including 11 – People's Artist of Ukraine, 2 – People's Architect of Ukraine.
On the basis of Quanzhou University of engineering and bachelors of painting program 2+2 (Quanzhou Pedagogical University) NAFAA are planning to open its branch in China.
