On the 21-23 of April 2012 celebrations, dedicated to the opening ceremony of the program “ Yerevan – the World Book Capital 2012” and the 500th anniversary of the Armenian book printing took place in the Republic of Armenia. At the events Ukraine was represented by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Armenia I.P.Kukhta and Deputy Minister of culture of Ukraine T.G.Kokhan.
Delegates from almost 30 countries took part in the UNESCO regional conference “Culture as a matter of stable development”, in the opening ceremony of the sculpture “Life of Eternity” and visited the following places:
- book and photo exhibition, dedicated to the proclamation of the Yerevan “The World Book Capital 2012”;
- museum exhibition “Eternity of Writing”, where the most valuable exhibits of Armenian writing were represented.
The Buenos Aires Mayor M.Macri passed the title “The World Book Capital” to the Yerevan Mayor T.Margaryan. In 2012 Yerevan, with its 2800 years of history, was proclaimed by UNESCO, International Organization of Editors and International Union of Library Associations the World Book Capital. It is worth mentioning, that the 12-th Armenian capital has become the 12-th World Book Capital in 2012.
