26 August 2022 10:31

On 23 August, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the establishment of the International Crimea Platform, the second Summit of the leaders of this initiative took place in Kyiv in on-line format.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Defence of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov, Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Tamila Tasheva and leader of the Crimean Tatars Mustafa Dzhemilev took part in the Summit from the Ukrainian side.

Despite the significant security threat on the eve of the Independence Day of Ukraine, the Summit was attended by the President of Poland Andrzej Duda. It became another demonstration of the significant support provided by Poland to our country.

The second Summit has surpassed the Inaugural Summit of 2021 both in terms of the number of participants, as well as in terms of their level and geography of representation.

The Summit united 60 representatives of different delegations.

In his speech, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Russia’s war against our state began in 2014 with the occupation of Crimea. Without the de-occupation of Crimea, this war cannot end.

Heads of foreign states and governments, as well as heads of international organizations, once again confirmed their unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as their determination to help Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression. The participants expressed their readiness to continue the policy of non-recognition of violent border changes and to increase pressure on the kremlin in order to return all Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia.

As a result of the Summit, the Joint Statement ( .pdf , 68.79 Кб ) was adopted, which confirmed the values around which the members of the International Crimea Platform united, condemned Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine, and declared their readiness to continue taking joint steps aimed at the de-occupation of Crimea.

The International Crimea Platform is an international consultation and coordination format initiated by Ukraine with the aim of increasing the effectiveness of the international response to the ongoing occupation of Crimea, increasing international pressure on Russia, as well as achieving the ultimate goal - de-occupation of the peninsula and full restoration of Ukraine's sovereignty over Crimea.

The activities of the Platform are organised along 5 priority tracks:

  • development of the common elements of the non-recognition policy;
  • consultations on enhancement of sanctions in response to Russia’s attempted annexation of Crimea;
  • ensuring a rapid and coordinated international response to protect human rights, as well as finding ways to protect cultural heritage in Crimea;
  • countering the destruction by Russia of the security architecture in the wider Black Sea region and coordination of work to support the principle of freedom of navigation;
  • mitigation of adverse economic and environmental impact of the occupation of Crimea on the region.
