On 12–15 January 2026, Ambassador of Ukraine to the People’s Republic of China Olexander Nechytaylo paid a working visit to Heilongjiang Province — the largest province in Northeast China. In the provincial administrative capital city of Harbin, the Ukrainian diplomat held several events.

The central event of the visit was the meeting of Ukraine’s Ambassador with the Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Heilongjiang Provincial People’s Government, Ms. Liu Qinghua. The Ambassador drew attention to the historical contribution of the Ukrainian community to the industrial, scientific, cultural, and humanitarian development of Harbin in the first half of the 20th century. The current situation in Ukraine in connection with the ongoing armed aggression of the Russian Federation, as well as Ukraine’s position on ways to end the Russian intervention and achieve a sustainable peace, were also presented.
For her part, the Director of the Foreign Affairs Office confirmed interest in further developing mutually beneficial cooperation with Ukraine and acknowledged the prospects for expanding interregional cooperation between the two countries. The Chinese high-ranking official also noted the significant role of Ukrainians in the development of Harbin in the last century and expressed hope for the speedy establishment of peace in Ukraine.
As part of the visit, a number of institutions of Ukraine–China interaction in the city of Harbin were visited, namely: the “Research Center of Modern Ukraine” based at Harbin University of Commerce, the Representative Office of Kharkiv Region in Heilongjiang Province, as well as the premises of the Joint Sino-Ukrainian Platform for Innovative Cooperation. The meetings at these institutions provided an opportunity to discuss current areas of Ukrainian-Chinese regional cooperation, as well as prospects for the development of academic, scientific, technical, and innovative partnerships.





While in Harbin, the Ambassador of Ukraine also held a meeting with representatives of the city’s Ukrainian community, during which they discussed, in particular, joint steps with the Embassy of Ukraine in China aimed at strengthening humanitarian and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
