The official unveiling ceremony of the sculptural composition “The Gate of Soul. A Dialogue between Taras Shevchenko and Du Fu” by famous Chinese sculptor Wu Weishan was held on July 9, 2021 at the Embassy of Ukraine in China as part of the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of Ukraine-China strategic partnership. The sculptor brilliantly created a new composition similar to the original one installed in 2017 in the Alexander Fomin Botanical Garden in Kyiv to mark the 25th anniversary of establisjment of the diplomatic relations between the countries. The images of two books that are made as two elements of the sculpture, build a metaphorical “gate” of the spiritual unity of the two nations.

Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasia Mr Li Hui, Director of the National Art Museum of China and the author Mr Wu Weishan, Party Secretary of the National Art Museum of China Mr Yan Dongsheng, the officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, cultural and public figures, Chinese mass media and Ukrainians residing in China attended the unveiling ceremony in Beijing.

The Ukrainian high officials - Minister for Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko and Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhenii Yenin - sent their warm congratulations to the participants of the ceremony too.

In her welcoming speech, Ms Zhanna Leshchynska, Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine, noted the deep symbolism of the composition, emphasizing that “a friendly dialogue between two great poets, indeed, symbolizes a dialogue between two strategic partners - Ukraine and China”.

The unveiling ceremony was reported by major Chinese mass media, namely Global Times, China Daily, Beijing Daily, The People's Daily, China Media Group and CCTV.
